Green Bay Packers fans were hoping to follow up their overtime win against the Cleveland Browns with the return of their star quarterback in time for a playoff push, but the club is not jumping the gun on clearing Aaron Rodgers from his broken collarbone.

Rodgers began practicing last week and was expected to return for next Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, but head coach Mike McCarthy pumped the brakes on rushing his quarterback's return without the proper medical procedures.

"There's a number of scans, testing that went in this morning. It's now in the evaluation stage. Dr. McKenzie is reviewing it," McCarthy told Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com on Monday. "There are a number of opinions involved.

"At this time, I don't have a clean decision for you."

McCarthy did confirm Rodgers has been on target for every step of his rehab, which the coach described as "very good." The team hopes to know more about his availability for its next game by Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
