Judge denies NFL's request to hasten Elliott hearing

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

A U.S. District Court judge has denied the NFL's request to expedite a hearing on the injunction to Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension, ESPN reports. The decision clears the way for the running back to remain in the lineup for the Dallas Cowboys' next game against the Washington Redskins.

The hearing will go on as scheduled next Monday, Oct. 30, a day after the Cowboys' Week 8 game.

Last week, Elliott was granted a second restraining order against the league's suspension, allowing him to remain available to play.

The sophomore carried the ball 26 times in Week 7 for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and added 72 receiving yards and another score in the Cowboys' 40-10 rout of the San Francisco 49ers. It was Elliott's best statistical performance of the season.
