Report: Elliott, NFL have discussed possible settlement

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Ezekiel Elliott's representatives and the NFL have discussed the possibility of a settlement amid the ongoing legal battle over his six-game suspension, sources told David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

The Dallas Cowboys' star running back was granted a temporary restraining order Tuesday from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, vacating his ban.

While he's now eligible to play in Week 7, the case is far from over.

But the latest development has created a "brief window" in which a serious dialogue over a settlement can take place, added Moore.

However, a source close to Elliott and the NFL Players Association told Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram that there haven't been any settlement talks to their knowledge and that the second-year runner is set on clearing his name - not just reducing his suspension.

Elliott will reportedly be required to make his case again in front of Judge Katherine Failla in New York upon her return from vacation, before or by Oct. 30.

Her ruling will determine whether the suspension will be enforced this season or if the legal battle will continue into the offseason.
