3 QBs the Packers should pursue to survive without Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is the latest NFL superstar to suffer a serious injury, and that leaves the Green Bay Packers in a difficult spot.

The Packers were one of the favorites to win the NFC, but things have changed with Brett Hundley taking over. Though Hundley might be serviceable behind center, it's hard to make the case that he can carry the Packers to the playoffs and possibly beyond.

Here are three quarterbacks who potentially could, however, if Green Bay can sign or acquire them.

Tony Romo

Romo seems to be excelling in his new role in the broadcast booth, but a shot at a Super Bowl might be enough to convince him to return to the field.

The 37-year-old grew up in Wisconsin, and if he takes over for Rodgers, it wouldn't represent a massive drop-off. Romo's been one of the league's elite quarterbacks when healthy - but that's the problem, as he's only managed to appear in five games over the past two seasons.

At least that means Romo might be a fresh 37, and if the Packers can protect the veteran, he could put up very good numbers with that crop of receivers.

Colin Kaepernick

Guess who also hails from Wisconsin?

The free-agent quarterback has been looking for a suitor for months and is staying in game shape. Kaepernick's athleticism could give the Packers a different dimension on offense, and he's more than capable of creating big plays with his legs. Opposing defenses accustomed to preparing for Green Bay's air attack would have to completely change their game plans to deal with him.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy no doubt remembers Kaepernick leading the San Francisco 49ers to a victory over his team in the 2013 playoffs at Lambeau Field, so he knows what the signal-caller is capable of.

Rodgers also noted in the summer that Kaepernick deserved to be on a roster, so it seems like he'd have one big supporter in the Packers organization.

Eli Manning

This would require a trade, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

The New York Giants are sinking fast and appear to have stumbled into a perfect opportunity to tank and search for Manning's replacement. What better way to do that than by getting rid of a guy who can help them win games?

When Manning was asked about rumors of a reunion with Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville, he made it clear that he didn't want to go anywhere - but few players would jump at the chance to join the Jaguars. He might be substantially more intrigued by a team with a real shot to win a Super Bowl.

The two-time Super Bowl MVP is used to playing in cold weather and winning games at Lambeau in January. For one season, it could be a perfect marriage.
