President Donald Trump continued his assault on the NFL on Sunday, calling for fans to boycott the league until owners either "fire of suspend" players who protest during the U.S. national anthem.

Trump then called the NFL "boring" in a follow-up tweet, arguing that the league's supposed declining ratings are due to the player protests:

On Saturday, the president referred to any player who protests during the "Star-Spangled Banner" as a "son of a bitch," sparking a massive backlash on social media from athletes across the sporting world.

Trump doubled down on his initial comments Saturday, criticizing Roger Goodell and demanding the commissioner force players to stand.

The president's words have been condemned by a host of NFL owners, the NFLPA, and the NFL itself.
