Report: Goodell's extension 'getting done' after issues resolved with owners

Greg M. Cooper / USA TODAY Sports

The NFL's ownership group cleared any outstanding issues with Roger Goodell and are working on a contract extension for the commissioner, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly tried to prompt further inquiry into Goodell before reaching an extension, but his request was denied by the rest of the group.

The owners haven't set a definite date to reach Goodell's extension.

It was previously reported on Sept. 17 that were it not for Jones' objection, Goodell's extension would've already been completed.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, New York Giants owner John Mara, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, and Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II helped expedite the negotiations, according to Schefter. All six owners are members of the NFL's competition committee, chaired by Blank.

Goodell's current contract expires in 2019.
