Goff: Sammy Watkins 'obviously' a special player

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff had another shaky start to an NFL training camp, but three days of practice with new No. 1 wide receiver Sammy Watkins seems to have him headed in the right direction.

When Watkins tracked down a ball thrown through the middle of the field Wednesday to make a grab and allowing him to turn and keep running down field, it prompted praise from his sophomore signal caller.

"It was obviously a special play and special player,” Goff said, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. “It was a good catch and, hopefully, something that won’t be quite a surprise anymore."

Watkins was quick to admit it would take some time to fit into the Rams' system following last week's trade from the Buffalo Bills. He watched the Rams' first preseason game - against the Dallas Cowboys - from the sidelines, but he's all set to make his debut Saturday against the Oakland Raiders, according to head coach Sean McVay.

"Sammy’s going to be a guy that is a big part of our plans offensively," said McVay.
