Elliott officially appeals 6-game suspension

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has officially appealed his six-game suspension with the NFL, the NFLPA announced Tuesday.

Our union has appealed the NFL’s six-game suspension of Ezekiel Elliott. We will represent Ezekiel, as we do all players, to ensure that the NFL is held to its obligation of adhering to principles of industrial due process under the collective bargaining agreement.

A hearing will be scheduled within 10 days. Elliott was suspended for breaching the league's personal conduct policy, specifically engaging in alleged domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend.

Elliott's father tweeted Monday that the running back's legal team is "ready to fight" and that he will argue that his accuser attempted to frame the Cowboys star. The potential exists that Elliott's appeal will be able to push the suspension to the 2018 season.

The Cowboys have voiced support for Elliott and owner Jerry Jones was reportedly "furious" when hearing the league's decision.
