Vick to Kaepernick: Get a haircut

Jasen Vinlove / USA TODAY Sports

Michael Vick doesn't believe Colin Kaepernick is without an NFL job because of his political views or his on-field play. He says it's the hair.

The former NFL quarterback, who knows a thing or two about rehabilitating his image, joined Fox Sports 1's "Speak for Yourself" on Monday and kicked off the Kaepernick discussion with some new - somewhat questionable - advice.

"First thing we’ve got to get Colin to do is cut his hair," Vick said. "Listen, I’m not up here to try to be politically correct. Even if he puts cornrows in there. I don’t think he should represent himself in that way. Just the hairstyle. Just go clean-cut. You know, why not? You're already dealing with a lot...

"He's just got to be presentable."

Vick believes that Kaepernick's hairstyle is separating the old Kaepernick, who went to a Super Bowl and appeared to be reinventing pro quarterbacking, with the new Kaepernick, who is believed to be more about social justice than football.

"I just think perception and image is everything," said Vick. "This is not the Colin Kaepernick that we've known since he entered the National Football League.

"I'm just going off my personal experiences. Listen, I love the guy to death. But I want him to also succeed on and off the field. This has to be a start for him."

It didn't take long for several NFL players to disagree with Vick's comments.
