Packers' Bennett ranks Rodgers as best QB he's played with, Romo worst
Martellus Bennett is really trying to endear himself to his new quarterback.
Despite the fact he has yet to play a game for the Green Bay Packers - or even participate in training camp - the tight end has spent the offseason heaping praise on Aaron Rodgers.
Bennett signed a three-year, $21-million deal with Green Bay in free agency and since then he has equated moving from catching passes from Tom Brady to being Rodgers' receiver to leaving Jennifer Lopez for Halle Berry.
Now, after one season with the New England Patriots that culminated with Brady leading him to his first Super Bowl ring, Bennett has already placed Rodgers above the Pats pivot as the best quarterback he's played with in his nine-year career. The revelation came last week during an appearance on NFL Network, according to John Silver of the Chicago Sun Times.
Bennett has played for five teams in the pros: the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Patriots, and now the Packers. Here's how his personal list of the best quarterbacks he's played with broke down:
- Rodgers
- Brady
- Jay Cutler
- Eli Manning
- Tony Romo
In his journeyman career, Bennett has managed to play with some of the league's most revered quarterbacks. He spent his most time in Dallas, which makes his low ranking of Romo all the more intriguing.
Bennett previously stated in an interview with ESPN's Mina Kimes that he hated fellow Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, one of Romo's best friends.
In that piece, he also explained how his lone year in New York saved his career, as he collected a then-career-high 626 yards and five touchdowns in 2012.
Nonetheless, Cutler, a quarterback Bennett also criticized for throwing in double coverage when he was open, ranked higher than both Manning - a two-time Super Bowl champion - and Romo.
