NFL pushes deadline to sign franchise-tagged players to July 17

The Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Los Angeles Rams have been allotted two extra days to extend their respective franchise-tagged players thanks to a provision in the collective bargaining agreement.

The NFL pushed the deadline to sign players hit with the franchise tag from July 15 to July 17, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, citing a league memo. The CBA dictates the deadline must be moved to the following Monday if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell, and Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson are the three remaining tagged players who have yet to receive an extension this offseason.

While a couple of days is unlikely to make too much of a difference, teams will likely welcome the extra time to navigate the difficult negotiations of extending a franchise-tagged player.
