Lions aren't interested in Kaepernick
The Detroit Lions may be in the market for an experienced backup quarterback, but when asked if the team had any interest in bringing aboard free agent Colin Kaepernick, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell didn't mince words.
"No," Caldwell said, according to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press.
Longtime starter Matthew Stafford is currently backed by 2016 draft pick Jake Rudock and 2017 sixth-round selection Brad Kaaya. The club could be in trouble should something happen to Stafford, an eight-year vet, but Caldwell isn't concerned.
"We have the guys that we want at this point in time," he said. "We have Matthew. We have Jake and, obviously, we drafted a young man in Brad."
While Kaepernick may not have a place in Detroit, Caldwell believes he deserves a spot somewhere in the league.
"I don't think there's any question he's capable," Caldwell said. "I was on the other side of the field. Actually, I was in the press box, but nevertheless when he was playing for the 49ers in the Super Bowl. That was only a couple years ago. So, I don't think that his skill level has diminished to the point where he would be completely ineffective in this league, so we'll see."
