Woodson: No one's more worthy to wear No. 24 than Lynch

When the No. 24 jersey went unclaimed by any Raiders player last year, it was no doubt a nod to the incredible career of Charles Woodson, who was freshly retired after his second stint in Oakland.

That vacancy only ended up lasting one season, but the future Hall of Famer has no problem with a certain hometown hero taking Woodson's old number after ending a brief retirement of his own.

Woodson's thrilled to have Marshawn Lynch join him and Willie Brown among the franchise legends to have donned No. 24.

"I'm excited about it for Marshawn to have a chance to come home and play in front of friends and family," Woodson said, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN. "That number 24, that's something special with the Raiders. I don't think there's anybody more worthy than Marshawn to wear that number."

Lynch, a proud Oakland native and one of the most entertaining NFL personalities of this era, generated plenty of buzz by landing with the up-and-coming Raiders team.

Now 31 and coming off a full year on the sidelines, it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank, but Woodson is among many who expect big things from Beast Mode and Co.

"It's already a spectacular offense with Derek Carr, Amari Cooper, and Michael Crabtree, and those two young running backs (DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard) and a strong offensive line," Woodson said. "I don't think you're going to see a better offense in the league."
