Report: Ex-Browns 1st-rounder Gilbert suspended 4 games for substance abuse

Jay Biggerstaff / USA TODAY Sports

Former Cleveland Browns first-round pick Justin Gilbert was suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Gilbert was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in September and played sparingly, recording three tackles in 12 games. The cornerback was released by the Steelers in February and remains unsigned.

The suspension may mark the end of Gilbert's career. Selected eighth overall by the Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft, Gilbert is considered by some as one of the biggest draft busts in recent history.
