Maxx Williams seems to have entered some new territory in his efforts to get back on the field.

The Baltimore Ravens tight end, who was placed on injured reserve after four games last season, is still working his way back from a knee injury as the team begins OTAs.

Details on both the ailment and the subsequent recovery have been minimal, but head coach John Harbaugh explained Thursday that Williams is expected to be ready for training camp after undergoing a type of knee surgery no other football player has undergone.

Harbaugh didn't offer up any further explanation, so the specifics about Williams' procedure remain a mystery.

News that he could be back in action by training camp is particularly promising, though, as the former second-rounder will be given another chance to get his pro career on track.

Williams was limited to just 32 receptions for 268 yards and one touchdown during the rookie season that preceded his injury-shortened 2016 campaign.

The 23-year-old will enter training camp competing with Dennis Pitta, Benjamin Watson, and Crockett Gillmore, among others, for a primary role on a crowded tight end depth chart.
