Beckham absent for 3rd straight practice to open Giants OTAs

A certain superstar wide receiver was still nowhere to be found when the New York Giants took the field for their third practice of the OTA schedule Thursday.

Despite the plan for him to be in attendance after a pair of absences to open the week, Odell Beckham Jr. was again not on the field, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

It's important to remember, of course, that this early portion of the spring program is officially considered to be voluntary. There are no fines for missed workouts in May, and it's entirely reasonable to assume that Beckham will be back in the mix sooner rather than later.

But that's not to say that teams don't expect their players to be on the practice field for all opportunities in what's become an increasingly scaled-back offseason workout schedule.

Beckham missing time for a reason that has yet to be disclosed remains, at the very least, notable and worth monitoring.

The 24-year-old, who racked up over 1,300 receiving yards and double-digit touchdown catches in each of his first three seasons, should once again be the Giants' top playmaker in 2017.
