Report: Beckham absent for start of voluntary OTAs

Stephen Lew / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants held their first voluntary session of organized team activities Monday and star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was not in attendance, reports Dan Duggan of NJ.com.

No reason for Beckham's absence has been reported, but the workouts are not mandatory so he's under no obligation to attend.

The Giants have nine more OTA sessions over the next three weeks, and it's unclear whether Beckham will show up to any. The 24-year-old also missed a set of unofficial team workouts in April while he recovered from minor oral surgery.

While Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is skipping his team's voluntary session as he negotiates a long-term contract, Beckham still has two years left on his rookie deal. It would be highly unlikely for Beckham to hold out in hopes of a new deal with so much time remaining on his current contract.
