Brees doesn't believe Kaepernick is being blackballed

Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned well into the summer but Drew Brees rejected the notion of a league-wide conspiracy to keep the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback out of the NFL.

Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers on March 3 and remains on the open market while a host of journeymen passers received deals throughout the offseason.

Many believe that Kaepernick's protests against police brutality and racial inequality have resulted in teams blacklisting him, but Brees doesn't subscribe to that theory.

"He is certainly good enough,” Brees said via Fansided's Mark Carman. "I don't think it's a situation where he is being blackballed. I'm sure there are offers being made to him. It's just a matter of him choosing the right opportunity. He is still a young player with potentially a long career ahead of him. There is a lot to think about there, it’s just not where do I go for a year, just to bide some time."

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider reportedly contacted Kaepernick's agent, and it's possible that the quarterback's foray into free agency may reach its end in the coming weeks.

Brees said he'd welcome Kaepernick to the New Orleans Saints if he were to sign with the club.

"Whatever decisions our team makes, those are in the best interest of the team, so if that was the case, then yeah, I would embrace it," Brees said.
