Here's a look at the fantasy implications of free-agent RB Jamaal Charles agreeing to terms with the Denver Broncos:

It's wrong to assume all NFL teams always know what they're doing, as bad contracts are handed out all the time and players go overlooked with similar frequency. Charles not having signed before this point of the offseason does signify the lack of interest around the league in a 31-year-old running back who has played in just eight games over the past two seasons.

Charles gained 404 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns on 83 carries over his past eight games, while adding 191 receiving yards and a touchdown on 23 receptions with 33 targets. He remained a dual-threat player through his injuries. He'll be able to fill multiple roles in a Broncos backfield fronted by RBs C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker and Juwan Thompson. They also added rookie De'Angelo Henderson in the NFL draft.

New home, same draft slot

Per FantasyFootballCalculator, Charles was being selected as RB37 at pick 8.02 in standard drafts while a free agent. Anderson was the RB15 at pick 3.05 and Booker was RB49 at pick 11.04. Not much will change with all three working together

Anderson should still be viewed as the superior and lead back, leaving Booker and Charles to share backup duties, with Thompson's roster spot now in jeopardy. Booker received double-digit touches on 10 occasions last season, but he topped 100 total yards just twice. He and Charles should be drafted around the same time, with both acting as little more than a handcuff.

The road to success

Charles' stock does rise slightly in PPR formats, as neither Anderson nor Booker has been used or had much success via the passing game. Should QB Trevor Siemian remain the starter or be replaced by Paxton Lynch, the quarterback will likely lean heavily on a checkdown option. Bump Charles toward RB30 and into the sixth round with a sizable role as a pass catcher.
