Buccaneers take Justin Evans to bolster safety spot
Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected safety Justin Evans out of Texas A&M in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 50th overall.
Evans, an explosive athlete, brings an element of physicality to a Buccaneers defensive backfield that needed an upgrade in the worst way.
He'll complement some young talent elsewhere on that side of the ball, and adding a tone-setter in the middle of the field is another move that keeps Tampa Bay's defense trending in the right direction.
Evans should immediately compete for starting snaps, and he'll have the versatility to play either in the deep middle or closer to the line of scrimmage.
