Report: Falcons, Trufant heating up contract talks
It's likely only a matter of time before Desmond Trufant's future in Atlanta is secured.
Negotiations between the Falcons and the standout cornerback's agents were heating up with a meeting held Saturday night at the NFL Scouting Combine, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Falcons officials have said throughout the offseason that a contract extension for Trufant would be a priority. Whether it's before free agency, or even at some point over the summer, there's no reason for an agreement not to be reached.
A first-round pick in 2013, Trufant is heading into the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.
His continued ascent to a standing among the league's most productive cornerbacks should soon land him a long-term deal that makes him one of the highest-paid players at the position.
The 26-year-old started all nine games before an injury brought his 2016 season to an early end, tallying one interception, four passes defensed, two sacks, and 31 tackles.
