Texans' O'Brien takes blame for loss, vows to improve offense

The Houston Texans forced Tom Brady to throw two interceptions and caused three New England Patriots turnovers. They still lost by 18, however, in Saturday's divisional-round playoff game.

After the 34-16 defeat, Texans head coach Bill O'Brien put the blame on the offense, a unit that compiled 285 net yards and and went 3-for-16 on third down.

"You're not going to beat the Patriots when you score 16 points," O'Brien said at his postgame press conference.

"I thought our defense played as good as they could play," he added.

Quarterback Brock Osweiler threw for just 198 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the loss. Lamar Miller took 19 carries for just 73 yards and no receiver was able to crack 100 yards in the game.

"We have to play better offensively. I put that on me. Everybody has to look in the mirror," O'Brien said.

Rumors had circulated that O'Brien's job may have been in jeopardy if the team performed poorly in the playoffs. After the game, he reiterated that he will return to the Houston sideline in 2017.

"I'll be back next season. I'm the Texans head coach. I'll be the Texans head coach," he said. "I'll be back next season. Like I said, I have a five-year contract. This is Year 3."
