Hue Jackson: McCown 'could coach for me anytime he wants'
While Josh McCown hasn't made the most stellar on-field impression in coach Hue Jackson's first year with the Cleveland Browns, the veteran quarterback has earned himself a second career, if he wants it.
The 37-year-old field general says his plan is to continue playing after the 2016 season with a year remaining on his current contract, but Jackson wouldn't mind seeing McCown on his sidelines in a coaching role.
"I know he could coach," Jackson told ESPN's Pat McManamon on Thursday. "There's no question. I told him already if he ever wanted to coach, he could coach for me anytime he wants."
McCown is a well-respected veteran in the Browns' locker room and would rather not see his last NFL season be one of the most lowly in the league's history. In 14 years as a pro, McCown has seen more than his fair share of offensive systems and has admitted that experience could translate well into coaching.
He's Emade of the right stuff," Jackson said. "He knows what it takes to coach and play in this league, and he's going to be a rising star in this profession if that's what he chooses to do."
