The Oakland Raiders have activated defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. from injured reserve ahead of Saturday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Edwards rejoining the active roster puts him in line to make his 2016 debut, after a lengthy recovery from a preseason hip injury.
Though his workload could conceivably be limited as the regular season comes to a close, the 2015 second-round pick is a major addition for Oakland's defensive front heading into the playoffs.
Edwards' ability to contribute both against the run and as a pass-rusher bolsters an interior defensive line that's lacked consistency to this point in the season.
Should the Florida State product recapture the production level he enjoyed as a rookie - when he racked up 42 tackles and two sacks across 14 games - he would be a strong complement to the abilities of Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin on the edge.
