Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates has been playing with broken fingers on one of his hands, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Coates hurt the index finger on his left hand in Week 5 and suffered a fractured ring finger in a subsequent game, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.

The injury explains a drop in production for Coates over his past four games, as he's caught just one pass for 4 yards over that span.

The second-year wideout appeared poised for a breakout season, with 421 yards and two touchdowns over the Steelers' first five games, but Eli Rogers and Darrius Heyward-Bey have seen increased production over the past month.
