Donald Trump shared his account of playing golf with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during a rally in Armbridge, Pennsylvania on Monday.

Trump attempted to win favor with the raucous crowd, stating that Roethlisberger almost killed a tree during their time on the course together.

"Big Ben's a friend of mine," Trump told his supporters, drawing applause, according to Sopan Deb of CBS News.

"We played golf together. He once hit a shot that went dead right into a tree. It was a massive tree like this. The ball hit the tree so hard I swear I said 'Ben, within two years, that tree is gonna be dead.' And you know what? Two years later, I should say this because we have - have a lot of tree lovers here. But two years later, that was tree was dead. He is a strong guy and a good guy too. Big Ben."

Trump claimed that he secured Roethlisberger's endorsement and commitment to speak at the Republican National Convention, but the quarterback vehemently denied supporting him as a presidential candidate and refused the invitation to speak.
