Rams' Goff to make 1st NFL start vs. Dolphins

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams will start No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff at quarterback when they face the Miami Dolphins in Week 11, the team announced.

The news is somewhat surprising given head coach Jeff Fisher's assertion on Monday that Goff would remain the backup.

The Rams have struggled to move the ball under Case Keenum, ranking 31st in the league in total offense, but they'e coming off a win over the New York Jets in Week 10.

Los Angeles reportedly wanted to give Goff his first start at home in front of a favorable crowd, delaying his ascension until this week.

He'll now become the sixth rookie to start at quarterback in 2016, with Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott both excelling at the position prior to the Cal product getting on the field.

Keenum will be relegated to backup after completing 61 percent of his passes for 2,169 yards, nine touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
