Ben Roethlisberger underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, and though the Pittsburgh Steelers don't have a timetable for his return, they are confident his injury is not long term, head coach Mike Tomlin announced in a statement Monday.

The veteran quarterback suffered the reported torn meniscus in Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins. He left the game briefly, but was able to play through the injury in the second half.

The loss of Roethlisberger for an extended period of time would've been a massive blow to a Steelers team with playoff aspirations.

Though no timetable is currently available, it's almost certain Roethlisberger will miss Sunday's marque matchup against the New England Patriots.

Landry Jones is likely to start in his place.

If Roethlisberger underwent a removal surgery, which is a short-term fix, he could be looking at a return following the Steelers' Week 8 bye.
