Rams' Todd Gurley: Likely to rest Thursday

Gurley is likely to sit out Thursday's preseason finale against the Vikings, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Gurley, who sat out the Rams' Week 1 and Week 3 preseason tilts, would thus head into the regular season with just four exhibition carries for 20 yards and a TD under his belt. Still, the Rams' top back is well ahead of where he was at this time last year, when he was still bouncing back from an ACL injury. Now further removed from that issue, Gurley is poised to enter the 2016 season healthy and in line to be the focal point of the Rams' offense. Thursday's contest figures to offer the team's depth backs, such as Malcolm Brown, an opportunity to make a case for depth chart slotting behind Gurley and Benny Cunningham.
