Browns' Gordon returns to practice: 'It feels like home'
Josh Gordon made his long-awaited return to the Cleveland Browns' practice field on Monday morning, returning for the first time since serving a year-long suspension.
Speaking to reporters, he said he expects to be eased back into practice and he's unsure if he'll play in the team's preseason game Thursday.
Nevertheless, he's happy to be back among his teammates.
"It feels like home," the standout wide receiver said.
Gordon hasn't played in an NFL regular-season game since Dec. 21, 2014. He admitted he's returned to strange, new surroundings and was unsure of whether his teammates would welcome him back.
"I wasn't really sure how the mood would be, but I think it's just the environment and what they're trying to do here and lead this organization in a new direction. Negative energy is just not what we're trying to put out there. The guys already knew that and I felt it once I got in there. ... I'm grateful."
Gordon will also have a new quarterback to haul in catches from in fellow Texas native Robert Griffin III.
"Robert, we go back a long time. I think that will be one of my best friends for the rest of my life," he said. "I can't say enough about that guy. Since we both came into the league together, he's treated me like he would treat anybody."
While his absence has been an extended one, the man who topped 1,600 yards receiving with nine touchdowns in the 2013 season said he's just as talented in 2016.
"I'm still the same guy. I'm confident in my abilities. I know what I can do ... I can be even better," he boasted.
He also said he's more dedicated to taking notes and studying team scripts in preparation for the season.
"Every day I'm back means a lot to me," said Gordon.
