Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn't avoid the subject of his contract negotiations as the saga carried on throughout the offseason.

Though the New York Jets quarterback says many fans were understanding of his situation, others were pressuring him to give in and sign on the dotted line.

"Everywhere I went, that was a topic of conversation," Fitzpatrick said Saturday, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. "Some of them were trying to feel it out and buddy me up to get the answer to what's really going on with the situation. They wanted my agent's number. Some of them were telling me I need to sign, 'stop being so greedy.' Everything in the book was thrown at me. But for the most part, people were pretty respectful about it."

Following a four-month stretch in which it appeared player and team were incredibly far apart, all indications are that the two sides found a way to meet in the middle as training camp officially opened.

Fitzpatrick's career-best season has been rewarded with a one-year, $12-million deal, making him the NFL's 23rd-highest-paid quarterback.

The Jets now begin their preseason work with their leader back under center, avoiding what could have become a massive distraction in the weeks ahead.
