Eagles sign Sproles to 1-year extension worth reported $4.5M

The Philadelphia Eagles announced a one-year contract extension for Darren Sproles on Friday, signing the veteran running back through the 2017 season.

Official terms of the agreement weren't disclosed, but the additional year tacked on to Sproles expiring deal is worth $4.5 million, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Extending Sproles, albeit just for the one season, was seemingly made a priority after a brief standoff resulted in him missing some time from early offseason activities.

Trade rumors that surfaced at the time were quickly shot down by new head coach Doug Pederson.

The 33-year-old figures to have a substantial role in the Eagles' first season following the departure of Chip Kelly, likely seeing plenty of work as the primary receiving back behind projected starter Ryan Mathews.

Sproles notched 711 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns across 16 games in 2015.
