GM Doug Whaley says that fourth-round pick Cardale Jones will not displace Manuel on the depth chart right away, BuffaloBills.com reports. "Very comfortable," said Whaley about Manuel. "If you look around the league we think he's as good a number two as most out there. He's a No. 2 for a reason as are a lot of other guys. We think he could come in and hold serve if Tyrod loses some playing time. He's a consummate professional and he's going to try to get better and better each day."

Analysis:

A large percentage of the Buffalo faithful seems just about done with Manuel - who's never really done much of anything after being a surprise first-round draft pick in 2013 - but Whaley still has faith in him. (The fact that Whaley made such a big bet on Manuel can't hurt in the faith department.) That said, Manuel is certainly more polished than the project Jones, and for all his troubles he has carried himself well through the down periods and injuries, while his teammates seem to like him. In any matter, neither Manuel nor Jones is any threat to Tyrod Taylor's starting role.
