The Dallas Cowboys learned the value of a good backup quarterback in 2015.

With starter Tony Romo sidelined for the majority of the season due to a twice-broken collarbone, the Cowboys only managed to win one game in his absence.

Now, the team is reportedly interested in picking up a recently released veteran signal-caller, who's proven capable of winning games: Brian Hoyer.

The Cowboys apparently could have interest in Hoyer "at the right price," a source told Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram.

The Houston Texans reportedly parted ways with Hoyer on Sunday, immediately making him the most experienced passer available on the open market.

Despite a four-interception performance against the Kansas City Chiefs that sunk the Texans in last season's playoffs, Hoyer's experience and leadership qualities could make him the ideal second-string quarterback in Dallas.

At present, the Cowboys have two inexperienced players in Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers behind Romo on the depth chart, and are unlikely to enter the season without making a move at the position.

However, the Cowboys could face competition for Hoyer's services, with the New York Jets reportedly already gearing up to host the 30-year-old.
