UFC releases heavyweight Jared Rosholt

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY

UFC heavyweight Jared Rosholt was released by the organization on Tuesday. The release was confirmed by UFC officials, according to Mookie Alexander of Bloody Elbow.

Rosholt fought eight times for the UFC and he compiled a 6-2 record. Known as a grinding wrestler, he won all but one of his fights by decision including an infamously dull affair against Stefan Struve at UFC 193 last November.

The 29-year-old Rosholt was steadily making his way up the official heavyweight rankings before a decision loss to Roy Nelson in February. That setback combined with his inability to put on eye-catching fights appears to have been his undoing.

Along with Struve and Ruslan Magomedov, Rosholt was the only heavyweight under the age of 30 to be ranked in the top 15 of the UFC's rankings.
