Report: NBA, NBPA agree to shorten free-agent moratorium to 5 days

The NBA and NBPA have agreed to shorten the free-agent moratorium from eight to five days, league sources tell The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Last year's moratorium ran from July 1-8, with players being eligible to sign deals that had been agreed upon on July 9. Starting this summer, though, free agents can start signing their contracts on July 6 instead.

The collective bargaining agreement had this year's moratorium running from July 1-11.

During last year's offseason, current Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan agreed in principle to join the Dallas Mavericks on a max deal. However, a series of events during the moratorium ultimately led to the 6-foot-11 big backtracking and re-upping with the Clippers.

The league's salary cap is projected to climb to roughly $90 million following the signing of a new television deal with ESPN and Turner.

Some of the bigger names hitting the unrestricted free-agent pool this summer include Kevin Durant, Al Horford, Mike Conley, Hassan Whiteside, and Rajon Rondo.
