Report: Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson sued for $200M over 'Ballers'
Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are being sued for $200 million for allegedly stealing the concept behind HBO's "Ballers," according to Kendall Fisher of E! News.
"Ballers" is a fictionalized account of a former Miami Dolphins defensive end, played by Johnson, who makes his foray into the agent business. The show was renewed for a second season that's slated to air this summer.
Documents obtained by E! News show that Everette Silas and Sherri Littleton allege that they brought their idea titled "Off Season" to Wahlberg and Johnson in 2008. However, the show did not come to fruition and Silas and Littleton have not been given "created by" credit for "Ballers."
Silas and Littleton assert that there are 27 similarities between the HBO program and "Off Season."
"'Ballers' borrows heavily from (Silas and Littleton's) materials and that certain aesthetic elements, including, without limitation, physical appearance of the characters and their vehicles, and plots, scenes, as well as story lines are virtually identical," the lawsuit alleges.
None of the parties involved offered comment.
