The league released the following statement Friday regarding Mejia's appeal:

Mr. Mejia and his representatives today continue a pattern of athletes hiring aggressive lawyers and making wild, unsupported allegations about the conduct of others in an effort to clear their names. Mr. Mejia's record demonstrates that he was a repeated user of banned performance-enhancing substances. As such, per our collectively bargained rules, he has no place as an active player in the game.

Mejia and his attorney, Vincent White, allege MLB hired third-party contractors to hack players' online accounts, and that the league attempted to get the former New York Mets reliever to testify against another player.

"I felt like there was a conspiracy against me," Mejia said earlier this month. "I feel that they were trying to find something to bring me down in my career."

Commissioner Rob Manfred handed out baseball's first lifetime ban for drugs on Feb. 12 after Mejia tested positive for Boldenone - an anabolic steroid. It was his third drug violation.

Mejia has received offers to pitch in Korea, but plans to remain in the United States in an attempt to clear his name.
