Free-agent quarterback Drew Stanton is unlikely to return to the Arizona Cardinals next season, an NFL source told Kent Somers of azcentral sports.
Stanton is expected to receive a higher offer from another team or the potential exists that he could compete for a starting job in training camp.
The veteran backup started eight games in 2014 when Carson Palmer was injured, throwing seven touchdowns against five interceptions over that span.
With the free-agent quarterback market depressed this offseason, the Cardinals could be outbid by any number of teams.
Stanton does have ties to Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and began his career with the Detroit Lions after going to college at Michigan State.
