Rogan: CM Punk fighting in the UFC is 'ridiculous'
UFC announcer Joe Rogan is known to speak his mind and he's not mincing words when it comes to CM Punk.
Punk - a former superstar with the WWE - has been heavily scrutinized since signing with the organization in December 2014. A variety of injuries have kept him from making his debut and the most recent delay due to back surgery has reignited the criticism of him joining the world's biggest MMA promotion with zero competitive combat sports experience.
On a recent episode of the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Rogan expressed his skepticism over the Punk situation.
"I don't know what's going to happen with that guy," said Rogan, according to Tim Burke of BloodyElbow.com. "I don't understand this whole thing. Well, I also think it's ridiculous for him to fight in the UFC. I think he should fight in a small organization. Take a fight in a small organization, build yourself up. I have always said that's what should have happened with Brock Lesnar."
Like Punk, Lesnar was a WWE performer who decided to transition to MMA. One major difference is that Lesnar was an NCAA Division I wrestling champion, which translated perfectly into a career in the cage. He took one MMA fight for a minor-league promotion before joining the UFC, eventually winning heavyweight gold in his fourth professional bout.
Punk is still expected to face Mickey Gall sometime in the near future.
