Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns with a right ankle injury suffered early in the second quarter.

Williams was in visible pain after being pulled to the ground on a rushing attempt, and had to be helped to the sideline before being carted to the locker room shortly thereafter.

After initially being deemed questionable to return, and making his way back to the sideline in an apparent effort to test his injured ankle, Williams was later ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The 10-year veteran has enjoyed an incredibly productive season since stepping in for an injured Le'Veon Bell. Any sort of extended absence would be a crushing blow to the Steelers should they qualify for the playoffs.

He appeared in each of Pittsburgh's first 15 regular-season games, recording 899 rushing yards, 354 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.

Jordan Todman will continue to see work as the Steelers' lead back in Williams' absence.
