Louisiana-Monroe hires Matt Viator as head coach

Derick E. Hingle / US Presswire

Louisiana-Monroe has named Matt Viator the 16th head coach in program history.

He replaces Todd Berry, who was fired after coaching the team to a single winning season over a six-year span.

Viator has been the head coach of McNeese State since 2006 and never had a losing season with the program. He guided the Cowboys to a 10-1 record in 2015 and finishes his career at the school sporting a 77-33 record.

As much success as Viator had at the FCS level, moving up to FBS is always a challenge.
