Report: Athletics to promote Forst to GM, move Beane to president

The longest-tenured general manager currently in the majors is set for a promotion.
The Oakland Athletics are expected to move assistant general manager David Forst to the GM position, while promoting Billy Beane to club president, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Rosenthal notes that the timetable for the move remains unknown.
Beane assumed GM duties in October 1997 and has been the architect of eight postseason teams during his 18 seasons while operating on one of the league's smallest budgets.
Forst has spent the last 16 seasons with the Athletics, 12 as assistant GM. The 38-year-old has assisted Beane in all player acquisitions, contract negotiations, and player evaluations under his current title.
The Seattle Mariners were interested in Forst for their GM vacancy before the Athletics decided to promote him.
