Broncos' Brandon McManus boots 70-yard field goal in practice

There's something about Denver Broncos kickers.

The current owner of the NFL's longest field goal (64 yards) is former Bronco Matt Prater. Before that, the record-holder was Broncos mainstay Jason Elam.

Brandon McManus is outdistancing them both - at least in practice.

Embroiled in a camp kickoff with Connor Barth, McManus booted a 70-yard field goal in practice Tuesday, a kick that would eclipse the NFL record by 6 yards.

McManus' kick came in a game-like, 11-on-11 situation, making it an impressive feat despite it occurring in practice.

"I actually told coach (special teams coordinator Joe) DeCamillis that I could make this one," McManus said, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN. "I don't know if he believed me or not, so I saw him smirk at me and he went over to coach (Gary Kubiak) ... I just waited for them to make the call. I knew I could get it there, it was just whether - it does look far away, I'll tell you that."

McManus was waived by the Broncos in November 2014 and placed on the practice squad after missing four of 13 field goals. He handled kickoff duties from December on, while Barth was brought in to kick field goals.
