Seahawks release ex-Green Beret Nate Boyer
The Seattle Seahawks released Nate Boyer on Tuesday, making the difficult decision to part ways with the rookie long snapper to fill a skill-position spot on the roster, the team announced.
Boyer, a former member of the Green Berets, joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent following this year's draft, looking for an opportunity in the NFL after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The 34-year-old was always considered long shot to make the final roster, with Seattle already having a veteran long snapper in Clint Gresham, but that didn't make cutting ties with Boyer any easier for the Seahawks' staff.
Just talked to Seahawks GM John Schneider, said conversation was hard one to have & Nate ended up consoling them not other way around, haha

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer adds that Schneider was emphatic in stating Boyer was capable of playing in the NFL, suggesting that it's possible he'll catch on elsewhere heading into 2015.
Boyer enrolled at Texas at the end of his deployment, earning his college degree and walking onto the Longhorns football team.
