VIDEO: Nurmagomedov brawls with Diaz brothers at WSOF event
Khabib Nurmagomedov may want to stick to attending UFC events from now on.
The undefeated Russian Sambo champion attended the World Series of Fighting 22 event in Las Vegas on Saturday and wound up as an unexpected part of the card. Nurmagomedov and his camp got into a brawl with Nate and Nick Diaz before the main event, with plenty of words, shoves, and even a bottle being exchanged.
Sherdog reports that it's unclear who started the fracas, with conflicting stories as to whether it was Nate's trash talking or someone in Nurmagomedov's camp.
WSOF executive Ali Abdel-Aziz quickly moved in to help break things up, and police were required to ensure the incident didn't spill outside of the event.
"I don't know exactly what happened," Abdel-Aziz said. "But people told me Nate threw a punch at Khabib. I know Khabib, and he is not the type of guy who starts a fight."
Abdel-Aziz later told MMAFighting.com that the Diaz brothers, who were in attendance Saturday to support teammate Jake Shields in his controversial main event loss to Rousimar Palhares, have been banned from future WSOF events.
"I consider these guys friends, Nick and Nate, but I'm very disappointed," Abdel-Aziz said. "I like these guys, but if they're not going to show me respect coming to the show, how can I let them back in?"
Nurmagomedov was on hand to be in the corner of brother Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who improved to 10-1 as a pro with a decision victory. Khabib is 22-0 and 6-0 in the UFC, but has been out of action since April 2014 due to a knee injury.
Both Diaz brothers are also signed to the UFC and have a combined 2-6 record since February 2012.
