Wolfsburg warns Nicklas Bendtner about his poor fitness

Nicklas Bendtner's spot at VfL Wolfsburg might be in jeopardy if he doesn't shape up.

Wolfsburg warned the Danish striker about his poor fitness, as the club enrolled Bendtner in a private training regime in an effort to improve his conditioning.

"The demands on a footballer in Germany are different to in England or in Denmark," Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs told Bild, courtesy of Sky Sports.

"If anybody wants to play for us then they can follow us. Anybody who doesn't want to do that and does not get in line has no place at this club."

Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking says Bendtner is in danger of missing out on first-team opportunities if he continues to "lag behind" his colleagues at the Bundesliga outfit. But he also wants the striker to know the team's criticism is part of an effort to help Bendtner succeed.

"I hope he realises that this does him good," Hecking told German publication Sport1.de. "He can really do with this to get better."

Their comments might also be inspired by Bendtner's miserable season in Germany, where he only managed to score one goal during his 18 appearances.
