Bucks deny report of Kidd adding GM duties to title

The Milwaukee Bucks shot down a media report Sunday night that said head coach Jason Kidd would be promoted to general manager this week - at the expense of current GM John Hammond.

"Unequivocally not true," Bucks vice president of communications Jake Suski said in response to the article by OnMilwaukee.com's Dave Begel, which alluded to a rift between Kidd and Hammond. "Our owners are extremely happy with the team we have in place and the tremendous strides we're making."

If any of this sounds familiar, it's because one of the reasons Kidd left his previous job as coach of the Brooklyn Nets last summer was his inability to replace Billy King as general manager.

Begel reports that Kidd and Hammond butted heads before the NBA draft last month over which player to select. Begel writes that Hammond wanted to pick Arkansas forward Bobby Portis at No. 17, but Kidd didn't like the idea because of similarities to Jabari Parker. Milwaukee ended up taking shooting guard Rashad Vaughn.
