Aaron Ekblad: Wins 2015 Calder Memorial Trophy
Ekblad was named the winner of the 2014-15 Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League," NHL.com reports.
Analysis:
Ekblad, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, put together a fantastic rookie campaign, playing in 81 games, while notching 12 goals, 27 assists, and 39 points -- all club records for a rookie defenseman. The 19-year-old received 1,147 voting points to narrowly edge out Ottawa's Mark Stone (1,078) and Calgary's Johnny Gaudreau (1,026).
