The Calgary Flames selected Swedish defenseman Oliver Kylington with the 60th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

A premier skater, Kylington adds puck-moving depth to a loaded Flames defense corps, which added Dougie Hamilton on a draft floor deal Friday.

Overview

Kylington is a well-rounded blue-liner who can contribute offensively.

He became the youngest player in the history of Sweden's SHL to score a goal when he did it in his debut at 16 years, 4 months, and 10 days old.

Kylington split the season between AIK in Sweden's second division, Farjestad in the SHL, and the Farjestad junior team.

He represented his home country in several international competitions in 2014, including the under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

What the Scouts are Saying

"Oliver is a very good skater with first-step quickness and fine balance," NHL European Scouting director Goran Stubb told NHL.com.

"He's a two-way defenseman who loves to join the offensive rush. He's smart, with excellent hockey sense and passing skills, and can read situations very well."

TSN's Craig Button had similar observations last fall.

"The smooth skating Kylington was a regular in the Swedish hockey league as a 16-year-old player," Button wrote in September.

"Skating ability is excellent with an ease that allows him to beat the forecheck, transition from defense to offense and to jump into the offensive forays. Very good passer and his vision and smarts makes him a multiple threat because he can beat you multiple ways. Reminds one of former NHLer and fellow Swede, Calle Johansson."
